Chapter Thirteen – Dad’s Work

08/23/2016 • Melissa •

Dad’s Work Life

While I was growing up, my dad worked in the transportation industry—specifically for companies that operated tugboats, barges, and trucks across Alaska.

I always knew he traveled a lot. What I didn’t know—until I came across this next group of photos—was just how far and wide his work took him.

Turns out, he spent considerable time flying into small villages across the state, often in light aircraft, landing on remote airstrips most people never see.

I’m not sure how many of these places he visited, or how many landings were rough enough to leave a mark—but seeing these images gave me a new appreciation for the scope of what he did, and just how vast Alaska really is when your job takes you corner to corner.

About Me

I have a deep seated reluctance admitting to others I’m a writer.   The rules of the written English language have bedeviled me most of my life. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but throughout my many years of schooling I was consistently told I lacked the proper writing skills. I couldn’t grasp the rules of punctuation – I just wrote.
